Hey guys I noticed a lot of vibration in my steering wheel today on the highway. It only would happen when I would hit about 70-80 or so. What do you guys think it could be? Thanks

Wheel balance maybe. I had the same thing happen to me when I just bought my car, it turns out the front brake was slightly grabbing and causing the steering wheel to shake violently. The old owner (my grandfather) had never checked the brakes (car had 35,000 miles). I picked the car up in Maine and drove it back to Atlanta. The shaking started on 5TH AVENUE IN NYC and I had a small panic attack. Its never good to have a slightly out of control jeep in 5 o'clock rush hour traffic in the middle of NYC.

I got off topic, just check the brakes.

I swear to god if I don't have my lug nuts torqued to exactly 100 lbs my steering shakes from 65-70. No other speed. Just 65-70.

Other possible causes; lost a wheel weight, dented wheel from pothole or some such, snow/ice in wheel (don't laugh it snowed in Minneapolis today), or just needs an alignment.

I'm voting wheel balance too. Classic symptom is to shake in a narrow range of speed but be ok above and below.

Maybe a tire bubble, although I think most of the responses already have covered most of the possibilities.

you pissed someone off and they gave you an extra wheel weight. Or you lost one...

Uneven tire wear due to bad alignment. New tires and a proper alignment will fix it.

Something as simple as tire pressure will do it, as well
